Organizations now are accelerating their move to the cloud, reinventing their products and services, and becoming more agile and cost-conscious. A Cloud Migration initiative is a strategic imperative to drive end-to-end digital transformation. Companies wishing to move on from outdated and increasingly inefficient legacy infrastructures, such as aging servers or potentially unreliable firewall appliances, or to abandon hardware or software solutions that are no longer operating at optimum capacity, are now turning to the cloud to experience the benefits of cloud computing. An On-premises IT setup leads to higher maintenance, higher costs, and scalability issues. The legacy setup generally causes a disparate IT strategy, not in line with the growing business needs.

However, a typical cloud migration initiative poses a few complexities for organizations. Typically, a cloud migration initiative requires strong leadership directives, a synergy between business and IT teams, and time-driven implementation. Let’s discuss the top challenges that organizations face with Cloud Migration.

1.    Lack of a clear transparent Strategy
2.    Adaptability and Resistance to Adoption
3.    Security risks of Cloud Migration
4.    Employee Training and Skill Shortage

How Can Mavim Accelerate this Transformation?

Mavim uses Azure, the Microsoft Cloud due to its applicability, speed, and reliability. Through Mavim’s guided process, several of the Cloud Migration challenges described above can be overcome. Here’s how Mavim can help with your transition to the cloud.

cloud transition

1.    Analysis & Preparation

By migrating your database (s) to the Mavim Cloud we can ensure that you can seamlessly transition to the new Mavim Cloud environment. However, a few factors impact your migration. In the analysis phase, you will look at these factors for a seamless possible migration. This is also a great opportunity to review, and perhaps improve your existing setup, assisted by a Mavim Value Engineer.

2.    Plan

Depending on your current situation, the number of users, the number of databases, and the way Mavim is deployed, the migration could take a day or less. In general, including preparation, no more than 2 to 3 days will be required to complete the migration. Mavim will restore a backup and a copy of the databases is provided to our Delivery team and the Mavim Cloud Sandbox environment is deployed by the Mavim team.

A Mavim Value Engineer will perform an inventory review in your organization:
•    Number of users on the On-premises setup
•    Number of databases in use and where they are located
•    Dependencies with existing systems, people, departments, and functions

3.    Migrate

During this phase, the users are onboarded to the Sandbox environment and serve as a training period for the way of working with the Mavim Cloud environment to circumvent issues with adoption. In addition, the users are also provided with access to the Mavim Academy to ensure the transition is smooth. Feedback and improvements are gathered during this period and implemented before the migration to the Production environment are performed. At this juncture, the Mavim Delivery team will deliver the Mavim Cloud environment. In addition, the Mavim Sandbox environment will be replaced, and the customer is provided access to the Mavim Connect Center. The Mavim Connect Center is used to provide access to the database and manage licenses.

4.    Go Live

The new environment is formally handed over to the users. The users of the cloud environment are onboarded, trained, and the transition to the cloud is officially complete. The services of the Mavim Value Engineer are at the disposal of the customer, to help implement, onboard, and train users during the go-live phase.
